This is something one wouldn't want to write, speak or discuss but I feel there is some problem with us ('us' can be read as Indians). At the top level, all of us are desi's ('Desi' is the word used for Indian amomg Indians very frequently. I am not sure if others also use that.)
Thought the title for this post comes from somewhere else. There are couple of scales which are used to measure your level of americanization (may be a new word but i find it a perfect fit here). Whenever you a meet a new person (desi), the discussion starts with 'for how long you have been in US' or may be with 'where did you finish your acadmics'. And then depending on the duration, your level is decided. Quite funny.. isn't it?
In response to this attitude, the new comers came up with a word called ABCD. This stand for 'American Born Confused Desi' :)). FOB(First on boat) came as a response for new comers. It's even more ridiculous.
At times it feels funny while at other you feel your head down due to this attitude. In a world where people land in this country and start building power for them as a group or community, we are still repeating the same old story here. We don't miss a chance to differentiate if some is from North or South; more specifically from a specific state or even city.
I wish things would have turned the other way.
